Provider-ready evidence

Website takedown evidence: what providers need

Organize one factual record, then tailor it to the platform, registrar, host, search engine, payment provider, or legal reviewer receiving it.

Providers have different roles

A commerce platform controls merchant services; a registrar manages a domain registration; a registry operates the top-level domain; a CDN may proxy traffic without hosting the origin; a payment provider handles a transaction; and a search engine controls search results. Before asking for removal, identify what the recipient can actually investigate or disable.

Use a compact evidence index

Put the reporter, authority, issue category, original URLs, suspected URLs, observation time, and requested review at the top. Follow with a table that maps one claim to one URL and one attachment. Name files with the case ID and capture time. Keep raw captures separate from annotated exhibits.

Show provenance and limits

  • State how and when each public page was collected.
  • Keep redirects, resolved URLs, headers, and capture failures.
  • Identify the owner or source of every claimed work or mark.
  • Label automated similarity, hosting attribution, and intent as inferences.

Make a request the recipient can evaluate

Ask the provider to review specified URLs or an account under its current policy. Avoid demanding a domain transfer from a party that cannot grant one or claiming that a CDN IP proves who operates a site. Use the provider's current form where available and repeat its terminology.

Maintain an audit trail

Store the policy version or form used, submission time, delivered fields, reference number, response, and any supplementary material. If the page changes, preserve a new capture and connect it to the earlier one. Do not overwrite history to make a cleaner narrative.

Know when to get advice

Legal notice requirements, counter-notices, emergency disclosure, jurisdiction, and disputed ownership can carry consequences. This guide is an evidence-organization workflow, not legal advice or a promise that a provider will remove content.
